Professional hearing protection
for defence operations
Protection against impulse and continuous noise without compromising communication, situational awareness and operational compatibility.
Dynamic Ear Company has been active in the defence sector since 2014, with its impulse protection technology originating from product developments for a British Ministry of Defence tender. The patented impulse protection system is deployed by defence organisations in Europe, including the Dutch and Spanish MoD, and is currently under evaluation in more countries. Today, the technology is brought to market under the DYNAMIC ear filter brand as Technical Impulse Hearing Protection Multimode (TIHP Multimode), covering both impulse and continuous noise attenuation.

Operational requirements in defence environments
From training ammunition to artillery, DYNAMIC ear filter solutions are designed for defence environments in which impulse, impact and continuous noise occur in parallel and vary in intensity and duration.
They provide controlled attenuation across these conditions while maintaining communication, situational awareness and compatibility with operational equipment, for example with over the ear communication systems.
This is achieved through the following system characteristics:
Attenuates
Attenuates sudden peak noise such as gunfire and explosions while maintaining continuous attenuation in noise environments like vehicles and aircraft.
Maintains
Preserves directional hearing and spatial perception, enabling early detection of relevant sounds and maintaining orientation in dynamic situations.
Supports
Allows speech to remain intelligible within communication systems, avoiding the loss of coordination typical of full-block or foam-based solutions.
Integrates
Low-profile in-ear design prevents mechanical interference, friction noise or pressure when used under helmets and in combination with over-ear systems.
Designed
Allows airflow in the ear canal, reducing heat and moisture build-up while maintaining a stable fit during movement and extended use.
Battery-free,
No removal or manual adjustment required during changing noise conditions, avoiding handling complexity and always ensuring consistent protection.
Noise exposure in defence environments
Impulse noise in defence environments ranges from low-level training ammunition to high-energy events such as grenades, flash bangs and artillery systems, with even training scenarios such as FX ammunition producing sound profiles comparable to live fire. Continuous noise is present in vehicles and aircraft, including armoured vehicles, helicopters and engine-driven systems, often under enclosed and reverberant conditions. Military engineering and technical tasks introduce additional impact noise through metal-on-metal work, pneumatic tools and structural activities.
DYNAMIC ear filter solutions are built for these conditions. They protect against impulse, impact and continuous noise while preserving communication and situational awareness across the following operational scenarios:
Training and live fire
FX ammunition, live fire, grenades and artillery
Vehicles and aircraft
Armoured vehicles, helicopters, engines and enclosed environments
Engineering and technical tasks
Pneumatic tools, scaffolding, bridge construction, metal structures
Workshops and maintenance
Mechanical work, repair activities and tool-related impact
Solutions
TIHP Multimode
TIHP Multimode is a passive in-ear hearing protection system designed to address impulse, impact and continuous noise within the same operational context.
Key product features of the TIHP Multimode
- Two switchable attenuation modes
Impulse noise attenuation of up to 35.1 dB at 166 dB (IPIL) in open mode and up to 41.9 dB in closed mode.
- Impulse-dependent attenuation
Protection increases with the intensity of impulse or impact noise, reaching up to 41.9 dB IPIL
- In-ear switching without removal
Modes can be switched directly in the ear without removing the device
- Maintains communication and situational awareness
Speech and environmental sound remain perceptible under protection
- Low-profile design for equipment compatibility
Compatible underneath helmets and communication headsets acting as double protection
Fit and performance (Ear Gauge and ALT)
DYNAMIC ear filter hearing protection systems support controlled fit and verified performance during deployment through dedicated tools for size selection and acoustic verification in two steps.
Fit control and verification in operational use
- Standardised size selection at point of issue
Ear Gauge enables consistent sizing across users during distribution - Verification of actual attenuation performance
ALT provides objective confirmation of the seal and a measurement report - Integration into existing issue processes
Tools are used at central distribution points alongside standard equipment - Fast, repeatable testing procedure
Automated measurement with clear pass/fail results supports consistent verification - Reduced variability across users
Controlled fit and verification improve consistency of protection
Standards, testing and manufacturing
DYNAMIC ear filter hearing protection systems are developed for defence use, with consistent performance and verified protection.
Made
in Europe
All systems are developed, manufactured and tested in Europe. Engineering, production and acoustic validation are carried out in the Netherlands, providing full control over product quality, traceability and performance across all stages.
Acoustic
testing
Each product is individually tested to verify its attenuation. Performance is measured for every product rather than assumed from batch testing. This ensures consistent and repeatable performance across large deployments.
Certifications and compliance
PPE Regulation (EU) 2016/425 – Annex VIII, Module D
EN 352:2020
ANSI compliance, including ANSI IPIL
ISO 9001 (Development, Production and Sales)
