PRODUCT

A good indicator for if your work area or activity requires hearing protection is as follows: If you have difficulty hearing or understanding a “normal” tone of voice at a distance of about three feet (90 centimeter), noise levels are probably exceeding safe levels and you should be using hearing protection. A surprising number of activities and tools require the use of hearing protection. This includes, but is not limited to, lawn mowers, tractors, leaf blowers, weed trimmers, chain saws, concrete saws, concrete/hammer drills, snow blowers, power saws, working near running chillers, etc. Those using firearms ALWAYS requires hearing protection.

The below infographic shows the maximum amount of time your ears, without the use of hearing protection, could be exposed to loud sounds before they can become damaged:

Event Average dB Max. exposure time
Gun shot 124 – 161 0 seconds
Concerts / festivals 115 < 30 seconds
Sporting events 114 < 45 seconds
iPod, MP3 players 112 < 1 minute
Jackhammer, chainsaw 109 2 minutes
Motor Cycle 98 22 minutes
Aerobic class 94 < 1 hour
Subway 93 < 1,5 hour
Heavy traffic 85 8 hours
Vacuum cleaner, busy street, alarm clock 80 > 8 hours

All our products were created with special use in mind, and therefore with a special and unique filter. The average attenuation (damping), is mentioned on the packaging.

“15dB” filters reduce the sound level by 15dB, making environments up to 100dB safe for up to 8 hours. To compare: Without hearing protection 100dB can cause potentially permanent damage after only 15 minutes of exposure.

“20dB” filters reduce  the sound level by 20dB, making environments up to 105dB safe for up to 8 hours. To compare: Without hearing protection 105dB can cause potentially permanent damage after only 4minutes of exposure.

“25dB” filters reduce  the sound level by 25dB, making environments up to 110dB safe for up to 8 hours. To compare: Without hearing protection 110dB can cause potentially permanent damage after only 2 minutes of exposure.

We would recommend purchasing the Crescendo Events which will give you enough protection to last a whole day while still being able to enjoy the good vibes of the festival event.

For construction and industry/factory type situations with loud continues sound levels we recommend using the Crescendo Work.

With an average protection of 24dB (SNR); you will still be able hear everything at safe sound levels whilst allowing you to still communicate with co-workers, hear alarms and keeping spatial and situational awareness.

The normal sound level of a bedroom is typically 40 dB. This means that any sound, regardless how small, quickly becomes extremely intrusive. Although the main purpose of the Crescendo Sleep is to reduce the sound of snoring to acceptable levels, during the development of this product we did also consider all other noises which cover the whole human hearing frequency range. This includes the sounds heard when sleeping whilst travelling.

To us. the key points a true sleeping plug must deliver on are:

  1. Comfortable to wear for a period 6-10 hours.
  • Provides air into the ear canal to reduce over-heating and irritation
  • Soft so that the person can sleep on their size
  • Flexible to reduce compression of arteries in the ear – causing the user to hear their heartbeat
  1. Reduce all noises typically heard when trying to sleep.
  • Snoring 40-90dB
  • Air conditioning 60dB
  • Aircraft 65-95dB
  • Alarms 65-120dB
  • Average noise level 70-75dB
  • Traffic – road noise, engine noise, horns, refuse collection 90-110dB
  • Babies crying or screaming 115 – 130dB
  • Rainstorms up to 130dB
  1. Allows a morning call or alarm clock to be heard.

Even though loud snoring and an alarm could potentially have the same dB level, due to the way that the Crescendo Sleep filters sound, the kHz (pitch) of the alarm attenuates at a different rate than someone’s snores. This results in the snoring is reduced at a much higher rate than an alarm would be, giving the user a stress-free night’s sleep.

If you are not entirely satisfied with the Crescendo Sleep, we can also offer a full block filter. However, this would not be as comfortable when worn for long periods of time due to no air entering the ear, the same problem found with other total block type solutions such as foam, malleable wax etc. These products totally block the ear causing it to ‘heat’ and irritate during the night. Therefore, we cannot recommend our Crescendo sleep filters enough!

Our Crescendo Fly earplugs come with filters that contain a membrane that provides slow changes in pressure; hence the pain often encountered during takeoff and landing is reduced (when the earplugs are inserted correctly).

Fit the earplugs prior to takeoff. The preferred method is to keep the plugs in the ears for the duration of the flight, this will reduce the background noise such as air conditioning, engine noise whilst allowing speech to come through. You probably experience that understanding conversation is easier with the Fly earplugs.

Crescendo earplugs are made from medical grade TPE (unlike competitor products made from silicone) and have been independently tested and approved for  high comfort levels with 12 hours continuous use.
