Big protection for little ears

The Kids Earmuffs are designed to protect the sensitive hearing of children aged 5 and older. They offer high noise reduction for loud environments such as sports and music events, fireworks, travel, or everyday school life. The headband adjusts easily to fit any head shape. Thanks to the soft PU foam, the earmuffs are comfortable to wear for extended periods, even with glasses. To add a personal touch, kids can decorate and personalize their earmuffs using the included sticker sheet, making each pair unique and easy to identify.

Which situations are the Kids Earmuffs designed for?

The Kids Earmuffs at a Glance

The Kids Earmuffs are designed specifically for the sensitive hearing of children aged 5 to 12. Every detail is tailored to young ears, from the comfortable fit to the high noise reduction of 27 dB SNR.

We take children’s hearing seriously

Protecting children’s hearing requires special care. Children’s ear canals are narrower, which makes sounds feel louder. Additionally, their inner ears are still developing and more sensitive to noise. Unlike adults, children’s auditory nerves are not yet fully insulated by protective myelin layers. These physiological differences highlight just how important hearing protection is in children’s daily lives.

That’s why we apply the highest technical standards in our product development. As part of the Sonova Group, the world’s leading provider of hearing solutions, we draw on decades of experience, medical expertise, and close collaboration with international testing institutions.

What’s inside?

With the Kids Earmuffs, you’ll receive a storage and carrying pouch, as well as a sticker sheet with letters and numbers for personal customization. Children can decorate their earmuffs individually, turning them into a fun and unique accessory. That also helps prevent mix-ups at school, as kids can easily recognize which pair is theirs.

Questions about kids’ hearing protection

Protecting young ears requires extra care, especially with very young children. Earmuffs need to exert a certain amount of pressure on the head in order to function properly. Whether this is safe for infants and toddlers is not yet scientifically clear.

Currently there are no certified standards or testing procedures specifically designed for hearing protection in very young children. Standard tests, such as those for determining SNR, are only conducted with adults. There is a lack of reliable data for key factors such as headband pressure, anatomical fit, and response to high sound levels in young children.

Out of responsibility to children and parents, the Dynamic Ear Company (DEC) has made a conscious decision to offer hearing protection only from age five and up, when the head is stable enough, pressure is safe, and children can use the product reliably.

Research in this area is still in its early stages, especially when it comes to noise protection for infants and young children. Standard tests, such as SNR measurements, require test subjects to be at least 18 years old. These methods are not approved for use with small children and therefore do not provide reliable results. Sometimes, adults with smaller heads are tested as substitutes, but this is not a valid replacement for child-specific data. There is a lack of studies on critical factors such as fit, pressure, and noise resilience in children.

That’s why DYNAMIC ear filter not only adheres to current standards but also actively contributes, as part of the Sonova Group, to the development of new test methods and regulations aimed at creating clear, certified, and safe conditions for children’s hearing protection.

It depends on the situation and the child. The Kids Earmuffs are designed for children aged 5 to 12 and offer particularly high noise reduction — ideal for fireworks, concerts, or sports events.

The DYNAMIC ear filter -20 dB is suitable from around age 8. It provides more subtle, even noise reduction and allows more ambient sound to pass through, which can be helpful when children still want to communicate in noisy environments.

To be effective, the DYNAMIC ear filter -20 dB must be inserted correctly, so your child should be able to give feedback on how it feels. In such cases, it’s often the more comfortable option, especially for longer periods of wear.

The most important thing is that your child feels safe and comfortable with their choice of hearing protection.

Wearing them for extended periods can cause discomfort or affect concentration due to continuous pressure on the head. It is recommended that children wear the earmuffs for no more than 90 minutes at a time, and not more than a total of 3 hours per day.
