Our story
Let’s go back to 2006, when a small team of engineers in Delft set out to develop hearing protection that could adapt to changing noise levels. Their patented concept was originally created for aviation, designed to reduce engine noise without compromising cockpit communication. What began as a specialized solution for pilots soon turned into a broader mission. The idea that hearing protection should not disconnect users from their environment proved relevant far beyond the cockpit.
Today, DYNAMIC ear filter is part of the Sonova Group and supports professionals across music, sports, industry, and public safety all around the world. Of course, it also addresses the needs of everyday users who want reliable hearing protection for concerts, festivals, travel, or work. Every product is built on the same principle: protection should never come at the cost of awareness, connection, or sound experience.
Our technologies
For 20 years, we have developed and engineered patented acoustic technologies for hearing protection. These technologies are used both in standalone earplugs and integrated into communication systems, headphones, hearing aids, and other hearables.
At our ISO-certified facility in Delft, the Netherlands, our in-house teams carry out research, engineering, manufacturing, and acoustic testing.This integrated approach enables us to maintain highest quality standards and to translate research directly into practical, manufacturable designs. Over time, our team has created a series of acoustic solutions that have helped shape how hearing is protected in everyday environments as well as across a wide range of industries.
The milestones below show how our ideas became patented technologies used by millions around the world and how we grew into the leading developer of high-performance acoustic filters in Europe.
Dynamic Sound Technology began with a clear goal: to create a compact hearing protection device that dynamically adapts to ambient noise and integrates with a custom earpiece. At the core of this concept is a valve that responds to changing sound levels. At sound levels below 80 dB, the valve remains open to allow normal hearing. When external noise exceeds 80 dB, the valve gradually closes to keep the sound inside the ear at approximately 80 dB for as long as possible. At very high external levels, the valve closes completely.
The founder secured a patent for this idea, marking the starting point of the company, which began with a team of three. Early development focused on achieving precise valve control, designing a custom chip, and integrating the valve, electronics, and power source into a compact protective device. To continue development, new shareholders joined, and early discussions with potential partners began. During this phase, the foundation of the company took shape under the name Dynamic Ear Company (DEC).
In discussions with companies in the hearing protection industry, we identified a need for smaller, flat attenuating filters for custom ear mould laboratories at an affordable price.
This led to the start of our MEMBRANE Filter development. We patented a flat attenuating filter that combines a mesh with a thin membrane. The design was optimised for a compact form and a modular housing, allowing for flexible use and customization.
In the following years, we expanded this development into a full filter range and began producing and supplying passive filter products to several customers.
Our filters were originally designed for use in custom moulds. In 2012, we introduced medium and large triple flange ear tips compatible with our filters. This enabled the development of universal fit hearing protection and allowed us to pursue our own certification. As a startup, we allocated all available resources to development and production. The concept evolved into offering generic fit hearing protection with advanced filters under private label for partners with established market access in music, motorsport, industrial, and leisure sectors.
Within a few years, we launched Crescendo as our showcase brand and developed packaging to deliver a range of solutions tailored to diverse customer needs.

All products are manufactured in-house at our ISO 9001:2015-certified production facilities in the Netherlands, giving us full control over quality, traceability, and consistency.
Our DYNAMIC ear filters comply with PPE Regulation (EU) 2016/425 and are tested, where applicable, according to EN 352:2020, ANSI S3.19-1974, and ANSI IPIL standards. Production and certification include:

100% quality check
Every filter undergoes a 100% final acoustic test before leaving the factory to verify both protection level and sound quality. When correctly fitted, the protection level stated on the packaging is guaranteed.
Contributing to safety standards
We actively contribute to the development of hearing safety standards beyond our own products. As a member of NEN and CEN, we help shape PPE regulations and the EN 352 standard, supporting clear and reliable requirements for hearing protection across Europe. We also support national health initiatives, including the Dutch “I Love My Ears” campaign by Veiligheid.nl, to raise public awareness about the importance of protecting hearing in everyday life.
Award-winning design
Our filters are packaged in fully compostable and recyclable PaperFoam® packaging that is lightweight, protective, and biodegradable, reducing environmental impact without compromising durability. It has been recognized with the Red Dot Award 2024 and the iF Design Award 2025.
